Music concerts aim to strike a chord
Music at Aden, a group of music enthusiasts within Friends of Aden, are hoping to strike a chord with audiences with the launch of a new series of music concerts to be held in Aden Country Park in Mintlaw. With an emphasis on classical, jazz and folk music, the first concert will take place on Sunday 5th June from 4pm to 6pm, featuring the hugely respected and renowned Aberdeen Sinfonietta String Quartet.
Bryan Dargie Aberdeen Sinfonietta Director explains:
‘The opening concert will be given by a string quartet made up of four prominent members of Aberdeen Sinfonietta who are delighted to be involved in this new venture. They will play well known and popular quartets by Haydn, Mozart, and Dvorak. The concert will also feature two works by Scottish composers – a short piece by the 18th Century composer Thomas Erskine, 6th Earl of Kellie and a very colourful quartet movement by Sir John McEwan’
Music at Aden is delighted and feels privileged to welcome the Aberdeen Sinfonietta for this event and again to the third concert in the series at the same time on July 3rd. On this occasion the Aberdeen Sinfonietta Vivaldi Quartet will bring music alive, including work by Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Tartini, Stravinsky and Keisler, within an Italian theme.
The second concert, a Master Class and performance by Richard Ingham (Honorary Professor of Education at St Andrews University) will take place on Sunday 19th June from 3.30pm to 6pm and promises to attract young and old alike. Students will work on pieces with Richard within a learning dynamic, the results of which can be demonstrated in subsequent performance on the day. Richard’s recital will be a selection of movements from two of his compositions; Pennan to Penang and the Book of Deer.
The fourth concert in this series has been arranged in conjunction with Aberdeen International Youth Festival. This is an evening concert at 7.30pm on Thursday 28th July. Musicians of the Moravian Woodwind Quintet (Czech Republic) comprising flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon will play pieces by Mozart, Reicha, Verde, Dvorak and Ligeti. This is a ‘must’ for all music lovers.
The Music at Aden group is eager to introduce and make easily accessible to everyone live music of classical, jazz and folk forms to Mintlaw and its surrounding area. The selection of music, the relaxed, intimate atmosphere of Aden Theatre and the opportunity to mingle during intervals reflect that aim. The group urges people to come along particularly if they have never been to such a concert. The Group is certain that seasoned concert goers as well as new audience members will not be disappointed.
